Don’t forget to “tip” the mailman! Showing some appreciation this time of year is not only important as a business person but it is also rewarding as an act of kindness. For those of you that have never tipped the mail-carrier, generosity certainly does bring on some good karma.

Mail carriers that feel appreciated will go above and beyond meeting your postal needs in addition to scanning and going that extra mile. Example: One time I had my mail ready for pick-up and realized after she picked up the packages I had put the wrong item in one of the boxes. I jumped in the car, found her on the route to explain and she gave the box back to me and drove back over to my house while I put the right item in the box and she waited while I packaged the other item to the proper person! WOW that is service! I can count on my mail carrier to treat my mail with respect. She even has backed up the truck in the driveway and helped me with unloading my orders of priority mail boxes to stack in the garage! One time I made a comment to her, you amaze me of how hard you worked and her reply was simple “It’s my job!

In my experience, our mail carriers have never let us down in our area. We have been blessed because this lovely lady is not the first amazing worker we’ve had on our route so this proves, she is not an acceptation. Mail carriers are people too and they all should be shown respect so please take a moment and include a “tip” or a nice gift to the mail carriers on your route or in your local post-office. Drop off a batch of cookies and give them some Holiday love!

Absolutely I do agree. Every year I do this for my mail carrier (this year we have 3 who have certain days) and we also do this for the guy who plows our driveway every winter. Like you said, they are people too. And don’t we people love getting gifts and shown appreciation? A box of chocolates, usually the turtles for the men, and dark chocolate for the women. Men don’t get the same ‘ahhh’ from dark chocolate unless he’s in touch with his feminine side. lol  Have a very Merry Christmas and enjoy – it’s coming fast and then it will be a WHOLE year before it’s back….

    Danna,
You don’t know how much I appreciate your post. My father was a mailman for over 20 years. He walked his route daily and worked very hard, especially at Christmas time.

Thanks for sharing that with us Bobbi and bless your dad for all he did! My best friends dad was a mail carrier too and remembering him gave me additional respect for these special people! xo

Love this article!  I always remember my mailman or woman whichever is appropriate for any given year.  Through the years I have been very lucky to have more above average than average carriers.  This year I think I have the best yet.  Always a smile and always goes above and beyond to carry my packages either to or from the truck to my house, and up the stairs if I don’t catch him in time.  Yes, this is the time to say thanks in a big way, but throughout the year as well.  Valentine’s Day is a great idea!   Thanks for sharing.

We just saw our mail carrier order her drink at Starbucks and went up to the register and treated her!  It was perfect!
