Do you struggle with fitting all your duties into each day? I know I do. You think you’re setting a good pace and then BAM! All of a sudden it’s suppertime and there are mouths to feed and clothes to wash. You would think that after all this time I would learn to set some sort of daily schedule.

However, you would be wrong!

For some reason, I’ve always thought the idea of a daily schedule to be so restricting. Having such rigid times to do this, and that, and the other. I’m stressed out enough as it is, why would I invite more into my life?

I’ve discovered, though, that a daily schedule is actually quite freeing. Once you have a more rigid hour by hour breakdown of your day, I’ve found it leaves things more open to change than I thought. Though it seems contradictory, hear me out!

Ecommerce Pros

When I wasn’t setting any sort of schedule, I found myself worrying about all the wrong things at all the wrong times. As a result, I would spend too much time on something that didn’t really matter and neglecting others that were more pressing. At the end of the day, I was suddenly backed up with crazy amounts of work and struggling to get out of the door.

For ecommerce pros, I would think it’s even more of an issue. Since quite a few work from home, there are so many ways to distract yourself from work that it’s a wonder you ever get anything done! Kids, spouse, TV, laundry, cooking; it’s all there in your face ready to drag you away from your computer.

Even worse, your computer is trying to make you stop working, too. How many tabs do you have open right now? How many of those are pointed to fun websites instead of work and research? Yeah, that used to be me, too.

However, when I started to schedule out my day to a fine point, I made sure to include fun time. It seems counterproductive, doesn’t it? It seems like scheduling fun ruins the point of the schedule in the first place – you were trying to get more work done!

But let’s be honest. You can’t work 24/7. Even working a straight 8 hours is asking too much. At some point you have to get up and look away from your computer or you’ll go crazy. In fact, not doing so may hurt your productivity.

Tips on Scheduling

So with that in mind, you should go about trying to schedule your day. If you’re committed to it, really go for it – schedule your morning break, blog posts, uploading images, even Internet down time. The more rigid, the better. If you find it does more harm than good, you can always amend it. However, I have a feeling you might find a new power in it.

Also, see if you can schedule out at least a couple weeks in advance. Yes, I know the world of ecommerce is always changing, and something always comes up. Your schedule should be able to reflect this. Move some stuff around if you have to (not necessarily free time!), though I have a feeling even if a major project comes up you’ll be ahead of the game anyway.

So give scheduling a shot! If it doesn’t work and you enjoy the chaos (and some do), then there’s no need to stand by a method that you can’t deal with. On the other hand, you may find a new focus and charge for your online business!
