I recommend using a simple SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) system that includes the client’s initials. For example, if I’m selling those cool vintage socks for my friend Sarah, the SKU might be S-SOCKS-01.

This ensures that when an item sells, you know exactly who to pay. I’ve seen sellers get into hot water because they mixed up two similar items from two different clients. Don’t be that person. Keep each client’s items in separate bins or clearly labeled sections of your workspace.

Payout Structures and Fee Management

This is where most beginners get confused. How do you make sure you’re actually making a profit?

There are two main ways to structure your fees:

1. The Gross Split: You take 50% of the total sale, and you pay all fees out of your half. (Not recommended for low-value items!)
2. The Net Split: You deduct eBay fees, shipping, and any promotional costs first. Then, you split the remaining “net” profit with the client. This is much safer for you.

For example, if an item sells for $100:
