Discover the Cool World of Winter Sports: New Coloring Book for Kids by Danna Crawford

Estimated Reading Time: 6 minutes

Have you ever sat down to watch the Winter Olympics and found yourself scratching your head? You see someone hurtling down a frozen track at 90 miles per hour on what looks like a fancy cafeteria tray and think, “Wait, is that the Luge or the Skeleton?”

If youโ€™ve been there, you arenโ€™t alone. I was right there with you! Watching the games recently, I realized that while I love the excitement, I didn’t actually know the “how” or “why” behind half the events. And if I was confused as an adult, I knew kids were probably having the same experience.

That spark of curiosity is exactly why I created my newest project: Winter Sports Coloring Book for Kids Ages 8โ€“12. Itโ€™s finally live on Amazon, and I am so excited to share the backstory and the “cool” details with you.

The Long Road to Amazon Approval

Iโ€™ll be honest with you, getting this book out into the world was a bit of a marathon. If youโ€™ve ever dabbled in KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing), you know that Amazon can be a stickler for the rules.

I spent ages tweaking the cover to make sure it met their strict guidelines. There were moments when I thought the winter season might end before the book actually began! But persistence pays off. The cover is finally perfect, the interior is crisp, and the book is officially ready for your little champions to dive into.

More Than Just a Coloring Book

When I set out to design this, I didn’t want it to be just another stack of drawings. I wanted it to be an experience. I wanted kids to feel like they were learning something new on every page while they let their creativity run wild.

Here is a peek at what youโ€™ll find inside:

1. 11 Exciting Winter Sports

We cover the classics like Ice Hockey and Figure Skating, but we also dive into the high-octane world of the Bobsled, Ski Jumping, and my personal favorite “wait, what is that?” sport, the Luge.

2. Full-Color Sample Pages

One of the most frustrating things for a kid (or an adult!) is staring at a blank page and not knowing where to start. To help spark that initial flame of inspiration, I included full-color sample pages. They show what the sport looks like in action, giving kids a jumping-off point for their own masterpieces.

3. Fun Facts and “Did You Know?” Tidbits

Each graphic comes with a matching fun fact. Did you know the word “Luge” is actually the French word for “sled”? Or that hockey pucks are frozen before a game so they don’t bounce too much? These little nuggets of info turn coloring time into a mini-lesson without the “boring” school feel.

4. Reflection Questions

I wanted to spark some imagination beyond just staying inside the lines. Each section includes reflection questions to get kids thinking. Questions like, “How do you think it feels to slide down the ice so fast?” or “What colors would your Olympic uniform be?” help them connect with the athletes and the action.

Why Winter Sports?

Winter sports are a testament to human grit and skill. They are about speed, balance, and bravery. By introducing kids to these sports through art, weโ€™re opening up a world of possibilities. Maybe the next great figure skater or downhill skier is sitting at your kitchen table right now with a box of crayons!

This book is perfectly sized at 8.5 x 11 inches, making it easy for those ages 8-12 to handle. The illustrations are bold and clear, designed to be engaging without being overly complicated.

A Great Resource for Homeschoolers and Teachers

If you are a homeschool parent or a teacher looking for a screen-free winter activity, this is a total win. You can easily integrate these pages into a physical education unit or a “World Cultures” lesson during the Olympic season.

Itโ€™s an easy way to get kids off their tablets and engaged in something tactile. Plus, theyโ€™ll have a finished product they can be proud of when theyโ€™re done.
